Why go to seminary? And why Union?

Listen to current students and alumni from the Buddhism and Inter-religious Engagement program, during and information session with Admissions and Rev. Kosen Gregory Snyder and Peace Twesigye.

This panel was filmed in November 2020.

Is chaplaincy for you?

Many Buddhist students at Union are interested in chaplaincy, although that is certainly not the only course of study and professional formation. Listen to Dr. Su Pak, Dean and Associate Professor of Integrative and Field-Based Education at Union Theological Seminary, discusses chaplaincy at Union, including:

  • Increased visibility of chaplaincy as a profession since Covid-19

  • Movement Chaplains and Union’s history with Occupy Wall Street

  • Chaplains in unconventional spaces

  • Union’s strengths in pastoral theology, psychology and religion and inter-religious engagement

What is Field Education?

For Buddhist Students who undertake the MDiv program, the second year of studies involves a Field Education placement. Host organizations vary widely.

This is a Field Education profile of Ian Case MDiv BIE ‘20, a Zen Buddhist priest, who described his experience working at the Manhattan Detention Complex, and its connection to his studies and practice.
